permanent swap file

In Microsoft Windows, a disk file composed of contiguous disk sectors that is set aside for the rapid storage and retrieval of program instructions or data in the program’s 386 Enhanced mode. This storage space is used in virtual memory operations, which use disk apace as a seamless extension of random access memory (RAM). Because the storage ares used in a permanent swap file are contiguous, storage and retrieval operations exceed the normal speed of hard disk operations, which usually distribute data here and there on the disk.
