Run Length Limited(RLL)

A method of storing and retrieving information on a hard disk that, compared to double density techniques, increases by at least 50 percent the amount of data a hard disk can store. The improvement in storage density is achieved by translating the data into a new digital format that can be written more compactly to the disk. The translation is achieved, however, only at the cost of adding complex electronics to the storage device. RLL drives therefore are more expensive than their MFM counterparts. Một phương pháp lưu trữ và phục hồi thông tin trên đĩa cứng, làm tăng ít nhất 50% lượng dữ liệu được so với phương pháp mật độ kép. Đạt được việc tăng mật độ này là nhờ chuyển đổi dữ liệu theo qui cách kỹ thuật số nên có thể ghi vào đĩa đặt sít hơn.
