IPDS(Intelligent Printer Data Stream)

The native format built into IBM laser printers, which accepts fonts and formatted raster images. One of its major functions is its communications protocol that negotiates printer transfers from servers in the network that perform the rasterization. IBM used to make only IPDS printers. Today, many of its printers natively support PostScript and PCL (LaserJet) as well. See PSF and AFP.
