paging memory

A memory system in which the location of data is specified by an intersection of column and row on the memory page, rather than by the actual physical location of the data. (A page is a unit of memory of fixed size.) Because the location of the data is specified by a means other than the data is specified by a means other than the data’s actual physical location in the memory, a paging memory system allows memory pages to be stored wherever memory space becomes available, including disk drives. Paging memory, therefore, is one method you can use to implement virtual memory, in which your computer’s hard disk drive functions as an extension of randomaccess memory (RAM). A chip or circuit called a paged memory management unit (PMMU) manages the movement of pages of data in and Out of the memory devices.
