NetWare

A family of network operating systems from Novell that support DOS, Windows, OS/2 and Mac clients. NetWare is the most widely-used LAN control program. Except for Personal NetWare and previous Lite versions, NetWare is a stand-alone operating system that runs in the server. NetWare 4.x supports Novell’s NDS naming service and up to 1,000 concurrent users. NetWare 3.x supports the bindery naming service and up to 250 concurrent users. In 1996, NetWare 4.11 was combined with Novell’s Web server and related components in a package entitled IntranetWare. The NetWare name is still retained for the operating system. See NDS.
