Making a phone call by using a computer conected to the Internet. The computer speakers and a microphone, or a PC headset, replace the telephone handset. A Java applet is used to dial the number, either via the system’s browser or stand-alone software. Voice-to-IP interfaces convert the IP packets into voice streams.
