Attributes that are associated with something. Windows uses the term extensively to refer to the configuration of hardware and the characteristics and features of software and data files. In Windows 3.1, the Properties option in the File menu shows the path of an icon in a Program Group in Program Manager. In Windows 95, right clicking on an icon almost always brings up a Properties option that provides details about the file or device.
