net.god(dess)

A longtime user or founder of a computer newsgrooup, who is considered by many users to epitomize the group’s preferred moral and ethical stance. If a neophyte threatens to start a flame war (an unproductive and angry exchange of illconsidered opinion), a net god or goddess may step in and, like a tribal elder intent on preserving the peace, remonstrate the offender by posting a critical message. The period separating the terms echoes the domain name system of Internet network addresses, and its usage is considered humorous. See Internet and newsgroup.
