Macintosh

A family of personal computers from Apple. The original Mac with its vertical cabinet was introduced in 1984. The Mac operating system with its graphics based user interface has been provided a measure of consistency and ease of use that is unmatched. The Macintosh family is the largest non IBM compatible personal computer series in use. Until 1994, Apple introduced the Power Macintoshes (PowerMacs), which use the PowerPC CPUs and provide increased performance. Today, all Macs are PowrPC based. PowerMacs run native PowerMac applications and emulate 680×0 applications DOS and Windows applications can be run via emulation software from Insignia Solutions or via plug in boards that contain an x86 CPU.
