index

(1) In data management, the most common method for keeping track of data on a disk. Indexes are directory listings maintained by the OS, DBMS or tha application. An index of files contains an entry for each file name and the location of the file. An index of records has an entry for each key filed(account no., name, etc.) and the location of the record.

(2) In programming, a method for keeping track of data in a table. See indexed addressing.

(1) Trong quản lý dữ liệu, phương pháp thông thường nhất để theo dõi đữ liệu trên một đĩa. Các chỉ mục là các danh sách thư mục được bảo quản bởi OS, DBMS hoặc trình ứng dụng. Một chỉ mục của các file thì có chứa một mục từ dành cho mỗi một trường khóa(số tài khoảng, tên, v.v..) và vị trí của record.
