downloading utility

A utility program that transfers downloadable fonts from your computer’s (or printer’s) hard disk to printer’s randomaccess memory (RAM). Downloading utilities usually are provided free by the publishers of down loadable fonts. You may not need the utility if the word processing or page lay out program you are using has downloading capabilities built in, such as WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Ventura Publisher, and PageMaker.
