directory

A simulated file drawer on disk. Programs and data for each application are typically kept in a separate directory (spreadsheet, word processing, etc.). Directories creat the illusion of compart ments, but are actually indexes to the files which may be scattered all over the disk.

Một ngăn chứa file được mô phỏng trên đĩa. Các chưng trình và dữ liệu sử dụng cho mỗi trình ứng dụng được bảo quản trong một thư muc riêng lẻ (Các trang bản tính, bộ xử lý từ, …). Các thư mục làm cho chứng ta có cảm giác đó là các ngăn, nhưng thật sự đó là các index (chỉ mục) sang các file vốn có thể nằm rải rác trên đĩa.
