Constant Linear Velocity(CLV)

In compact disk players, a playback technique that speeds or slows the rotation of the disk to ensure that the velocity of the disk at the reading point remains constant. To achieve constant linear velocity, the rotational speed of the spindle motor must be inversely proportional to the distance of the read point from the spindle. The closer to the spindle, the slower the speed. In contrast to CLV devices, constant angular velocity (CAV) devices such as hard disks access data at differing rates, depending on the distance of the read/write head from the drive spindle.
