COM

(1)(Component Object Model) A component software architecture from Microsoft, which defines a structure for building program routines (objects) that canbe called up and executed. Some elements of Windows and many parts of Microsoft’s own applications are built as COM objects. VBX, OCX and ActiveX controls are also based on COM. COM capability is built into Windows NT and 95. COM+ is the latest version. See OLE, DCOM and CORBA.

(2)(Computer Output Microfilm) Creating microfilm or microfiche receives printimage output A COM machine receives printimage output from the computer and creates a film image of each page. Additional graphics (lines, logos, etc.) may be added.
