CCITT V.42

An error control protocol (standard) that filters outline noise and eliminates errors that can occur during the transmission and reception of data by computer modem. For error control to function, both modems-the one on the sending and the one on the receiving end of the transmission-must have error control capabilities conforming to the same error control protocol.
