A file linked to and sent with an e-mail message. Attachments are usually added simply by clicking the e-mail program’s attach button. A dialog box usually opens, allowing the user to choose the file to attach. Once clicked, the file becomes linked to the e-mail message. Warning: Beware of attachments from unknown senders since this is a common method of transmitting viruses.
