bit depth

A coding system. that uses numerical values to represent something in terms of bits. Most frequently used to refer to the number of bits required to hold a pixel. The bit depth determines the number of colors that can be displayed on the monitor where High color is referred to as 16-bits and True color as 24 or 32 bits.
