Floptical(FLoppy OPTICAL)

A type of floppy disk that recorded data magnetically, but used grooves in the disk to optically align the head over the tracks. The drive supported regular 3.5″ floppies and 21MB Flopticals when introduced by Insite Peripherals of San Jose, CA, but its capacity was not enough appealing enough to be popular. However, a 120MB version of this technology was developed by 3M and introduced in 1996 as the LS-120.
