DOS

(1) (Disk Operating System) Pronounced “dahss.” A generic term for operating system.

(2) (Disk Operating System) A singleuser operating system from Microsoft for the PC. It was the first OS for the PC and is still the base control program for Windows 3.1. Windows 95 and Windows NT build in their own version of DOS to support DOS applications. See MSDOS and PCDOS.
