An explanatory note or comment you can insert into a document such as a business report or analytical worksheet. With some applications, you can insert an annotation as an icon that, when clicked by the person who reads the document, opens a separate window that contains the note. Users of Macintosh systems equipped with digital sound and microphones, such as the Macintosh LC II, can add voice annotations to Microsoft Word 5.0 documents; the annotation─a brief voice explanation, in this case─appears in the document as an icon. When the reader double-clicks the icon, the Mac plays back the recording. Windows 3.1 users can use the Annotate command on the Edit menu to add comments to the Help documents. If you discover something important about the way Windows works, don’t scribble a note to your self on a slip of paper─use the Annotate command instead.
