International Téléphonique et Télégraphique An international organization that sets standards for analog and digital communications involving modems, computer networks digital signal transmission, and fax machines. In the United States, early modem communications standards were proprietary standards, such as the use of the Bell 103 standard for 300　baud telecommunications in place of the CCITT V.21 standard. Increasingly, U.S. firms are switching to CCITT standards. Commonly used, for example, is the V.22bis standard, which governs modem telecommunications at 2400 baud. CCITT standards are also evident in fax machines, which conform to the CCH17 Group 3 standards.
